There are four houses in Hogwarts, the school of witchcraft and wizardry. These four houses feature in Hogwarts Legacy and consist of Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and the often-reviled Slytherin. There is a reason that Slytherin seems to be the “bad” batch of the group, for its founder left a bad taste in the mouths of Hogwarts, and the Slytherin common room in Hogwarts Legacy holds secrets that may indicate why.
After players interact with the sorting hat and receive their chosen house of Slytherin, they will be able to explore the common room of the house made famous in Harry Potter. The Slytherin common room in Hogwarts Legacy holds what audiences know from Harry Potter, featuring interesting details players might have missed.
8 Living Knight Armor
Hogwarts is a magical location and is riddled with secrets. Not only does the castle feature magic puzzles and secret enchanted rooms, but it seems that even the decor is alive. Throughout the Slytherin common room, players will be able to find passive suits of knight armor, but approaching them reveals something more.
These suits of armor may be scattered around the school of Hogwarts, but they are quite common in Slytherin’s common room. If they are shot with spells, they will recompose themselves and return to their standard position.
7 Serpent Door
One of the many aspects of Hogwarts Legacy that shows the talents and care of the team behind it is the Slytherin common room entrance. A metallic decoration of a serpent slithers across the wall, revealing the hidden door inside. It’s a detail that may be missed by players not paying attention, or simply those exiting their common room.
All the houses in Hogwarts Legacy feature an interesting way that the specific house students enter their common room, and the fact that Slytherin has a signature serpent is telling of their house. It also will only reveal itself to Slytherin students.
6 Mermaid Spotting
Mermaids are one of the many mystical elements that students look for in Hogwarts, and the Slytherin common room has a fun detail that fans might miss. This detail is simply the fact that they are under the water. This means that players can see out of the common room window to see all kinds of aquatic life, and perhaps a mermaid.
Although it is unlikely that players will be able to spot a mermaid, it does not stop the older students from teasing the first-year Slytherin students of Hogwarts, tricking them into wasting time to spot mermaids. Hopefully, these aren’t as creepy as the ones from the movies.
5 Phoenix Skeleton
Mystical beasts are commonplace around the grounds of Hogwarts Legacy, and one of the rarest is the phoenix. This fascinating creature is a faithful pet and has healing powers in its tears. Its beautiful red feathers and large size makes it a bird to marvel at, even after its death, which is why it features in a treasure cabinet in the Slytherin common room.
Exploring the Slytherin common room, players can find the skeleton of a dead phoenix. This raises the question of how it died, because a Phoenix can live to an immense age, and can burst into flames, resurrecting into a new phoenix after a few short days of growing in the ashes of their dead body.
4 Salazar Slytherin Statue
There are many dangerous characters in the Harry Potter franchise, and Salazar Slytherin may represent what is wrong with the magic community. Salazar Slytherin was a pure-blood wizard and despised the fact that Hogwarts was open to those that were not pure-blood. He desired only the purest of ancestries be taught at Hogwarts.
Despite his cruel views, he is still a founder of Hogwarts, and Slytherin stands strong despite his horrors. As one of the founders, Salazar Slytherin has a statue in the center of the Slytherin common room, and Slytherin students need to know their founder and his flaws.
3 Order Of Merlin Badge
Located on what seems to be a notice board in the Slytherin common room is that of an Order of Merlin award. This badge is bestowed to witches or wizards that have achieved great things and is the wizarding equivalent of an Order of the British Empire award. The award itself is in line with Merlin’s views, who believed that wizards and witches should help Muggles, and oppose the rule of magic on Muggles.
With this badge sitting idly in the Slytherin common room, it begs the question of who owns this award. It is known that Merlin was a student of Hogwarts, and a Slytherin, so perhaps the award is simply to pay homage to a former and famous student.
2 Unicorn Skeleton
There is perhaps no creature more prestigious and beautiful than the unicorn. These magical horses are known for their pale, almost pearlescent hair and the horn on their head. Unicorns are majestic and are often seen as the purest of beings. Their bodies have magical properties, found in their horn, hair, and blood.
In the Slytherin common room, players will find another magical beast that has had its skeleton put under the display. This dead unicorn is in the Slytherin common room for all to see and makes fans wonder who would kill such a magical beast. Perhaps it was slaughtered for its blood, which when drunk, will give the drinker a cursed half-life.
1 Chamber Of Secrets
One of the most famous secrets and mysteries of the magical world of Harry Potter is the Chamber of Secrets. During Medieval times, Salazar Slytherin created the Chamber of Secrets after a disagreement with the other Hogwarts founders. This chamber was a secret to all, and Salazar took it to his grave, including the information about the ancient Basilisk that slept within.
If players venture to the witch’s bathroom on the Slytherin floor, they will be able to find the secret entrance to the Chamber of Secrets. Although not accessible, the fact that Salazar Slytherin’s symbol is etched into one of the sinks indicates that the chamber lurks, awaiting someone who speaks Parseltongue.
Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. PS4 and Xbox One ports are scheduled to release on April 4. The Nintendo Switch version is arriving on July 25, 2023.
