My coworkers think I’m crazy, but I want to buy this giant Halloween decoration in August
We’re only a few days into August, but I’ve already got Halloween on my mind. When I told my colleagues I’d begun buying (not displaying) Halloween decor, I was told, “You’re the reason stores can’t let us live in the present.”
I’m not the reason retailers sell Halloween decor as early as July. The competitive marketplace is why. But I can’t say I’m unhappy about it. I love that Home Depot sells a 12-foot skeleton in the middle of the summer. I’m not going to put up all of my Halloween decorations in the summer. I can at least wait until Sep. 1 before displaying decor, though if I spent $300 on that skeleton, I’d probably leave it up year round and become a terror for my neighbors.
Every summer, I find a new Halloween item to obsess over, and the last two years, I’ve been dying to buy one of the Oogie Boogie inflatables that Home Depot sells.
“The Nightmare Before Christmas” was my childhood best friend’s favorite movie. We would come home after school and sit in her living room to watch it. In just one school year, I probably watched the movie 100 times. I no longer watch it weekly and I find the love story between Jack and Sally quite flawed, but it’s still a favorite holiday movie of mine. It works for Halloween and Christmas.
The older I get, the more I like Oogie Boogie and his little minions. What’s not to love about Catherine O’Hara voicing a child who calls her friends idiots? I don’t need Jack and Sally kissing on top of a mountain. I need Oogie Boogie’s green body glowing on my balcony this Halloween.
I can’t be the only one interested in this exact decor style. Home Depot was selling three different Oogie Boogie inflatables, but one has already sold out. If you have similar interests to me, but don’t have space for a 9-foot inflatable, Home Depot sells a 4-foot hanging Oogie Boogie that’s far more budget friendly.
